The Chosen: A TV Series of Biblical Proportions #GetUsedToDifferent

In a dramatic TV-series success story of biblical proportions that even Hollywood must covet, Season Two: Episode 1 of The Chosen which aired on the evening of Easter Sunday, had more than 2 million viewers both as a live-streaming event and subsequent viewership over Facebook, YouTube, and the series’ app during the next seven days.

Total views of the crowd-funded (Pay It Forward) The Chosen series over Seasons 1 and 2 (Episode 1) as shown on the series app: 116,440,479 (at the time of article publication).

Of course, the number of views is not the main thing for producer Dallas Jenkins and his team as the end game is to tell the greatest story ever told, the life and times of Jesus Christ on earth, including the lives of his disciples and followers, to the best of their ability.

It’s not manufactured hype that’s powering The Chosen, millions of people’s lives have changed (watch Teens React to The Chosen below), and many viewers have become followers of Jesus as evidenced by documented testimonies.

The Chosen Global Live Event: Season Two, Episode 2

The series, primarily streamed over The Chosen app, will air the second episode of Season Two also live (watch above) on Facebook and YouTube in addition to the app, on Tuesday, April 13, at 6 pm Pacific Time.

The Story Behind the Chosen

As God often does with difficult times in our own lives, Jenkins was pressed hard after coming to terms with the results from a disappointing previous film project.

“What’s really interesting about The Chosen was that this project was really born out of one of the biggest professional disappointments of my life,” Jenkins said (The Story Behind the Chosen video above). [During the release of] my previous film, we had just received the news that the box office wasn’t going to be what I hoped. I was stuck at home on a Friday with my wife at pretty much the lowest point in my career, crying, and praying and trying to make sense of it all and trying to figure out what was next.

“But I’ll never forget that God pressed on both of our hearts so clearly and so explicitly the story of the 5,000 when Jesus heard from his disciples that the people he was talking to were so hungry, he knew that already, it was if he had intentionally allowed it to get to this point, where the only thing left was a miracle. Once he multiplied it, he had them go and deliver it to all the people. He had them do everything that they could do on their own until the only thing that was left was the only thing he could do, the miracle.

“That same night I was sitting at my computer at 3 o’clock in the morning and a Facebook message pops up, it didn’t even say ‘hi,’ it just simply said, ‘Remember, it’s not your job to feed the 5,000. Your job is to bring your bread and fish.'”

In the discussion seen in the video of The Story Behind the Chosen (above) the VidAngel team gets emotional in telling about their reaction to seeing The Shepherd pilot episode for the first time.

“The idea of having a medium that can reach tens of millions of people in a way that I was impacted by The Shepherd is not only humbling but really, really exciting,” said Jeffrey Harmon, co-founder of VidAngel.
