Oral Roberts University Basketball Team: More Than a Cinderella Story
CINDERELLA STORY (URBAN DICTIONARY): Refers to a person or professional sports team who achieves unexpected or sudden success or recognition, especially after obscurity, neglect, or misery. Cinderella stories tend to gain much media and fan attention as they move closer to the championship game at the end of the tournament.
The 2004 Boston Red Sox season is considered a Cinderella Story after beating the New York Yankees in 7 games after falling behind 3-0 in the series.
The Oral Roberts University Basketball Team making the Sweet 16 during NCAA March Madness is a Cinderella story. However, a Cinderella story in basketball is usually played out between players on the court. Not this story.
Off the court, some would have you weep in guilt over rooting for the Golden Eagles, a team from a Christian university with a mission statement that includes a biblical world view and not simply a world view. Even “rooting for the underdog,” in this case, is unacceptable in the eyes of the cancel culture.
The Lord’s promises are pure,
like silver refined in a furnace,
purified seven times over.
Therefore, Lord, we know you will
protect the oppressed,
preserving them forever from this
lying generation,
even though the wicked strut about,
and evil is praised throughout the land.
– Psalm 12:6-8
I’m recommending two stories for you to read for some perspective on this subject. One has a world view, the other has a biblical world view. I hope you are able to discern which is which one.
Oral Roberts University isn’t the feel good March Madness story we need
…and…
No, Oral Roberts University basketball doesn’t deserve to be canceled from NCAA Sweet 16
